Participating in the ALA Emerging Leaders program
Participating in the ALA Emerging Leaders program proved to be more than just a personal growth experience—it became a valuable opportunity to contribute to the Asian Pacific American Librarians Association’s (APALA) needs. During Winter to Summer 2023, as one of the 46 selected participants, I actively engaged in collaborative efforts with emerging library professionals and, in the process, identified an area where my expertise could make a significant impact. Recognizing APALA's requirement for a well-organized digital repository, I took the initiative to address this need within the framework of the project. Collaborating with four librarians from the U.S. and Canada, we crafted a comprehensive 16-page proposal aimed at supporting the ongoing development of the APALA archives and the creation of an organizational records management policy. This experience not only enriched my understanding of APALA's structure and operations but also allowed me to make a tangible contribution to the enhancement of their archival capabilities. The ALA Emerging Leaders program thus became a platform not only for personal and professional development but also for meaningful service to the library community.
ALA - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Observance and Sunrise Celebration
I had the privilege of representing CALA in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Observation and Celebration event on Jan 29th, 2023, as a cherished ALA tradition. Co-sponsored by the ALA Office for Diversity, Literacy and Outreach Services, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Task Force of the ALA Social Responsibilities Round Table, and the Black Caucus of the American Library Association, this event pays tribute to Dr. King's legacy. During the ceremony, I joined leaders from various associations to read a quote excerpted from Dr. King's speeches, fostering unity and highlighting CALA's commitment to inclusivity and diversity within the library profession.
